The Challenge
Ports are complex, high-risk environments where human-machine interaction, cargo operations, and environmental conditions create serious safety concerns. Incidents such as falls, collisions, and mooring accidents remain common. Despite significant progress, accidents and near misses still occur and there’s a clear need for smarter, proactive approaches enabled by technology.
What is SIPII?
The Safety in Ports Innovation Initiative (SIPII) is a collaborative, multi-year innovation programme that brings together port stakeholders to accelerate the adoption of technology for safer operations. Through global collaboration, SIPII tackles high-impact safety challenges with practical, tested approach to reduce risk and enhance performance.

To eliminate or significantly mitigate key health and safety risks in ports and terminals, making them safer, more sustainable, and more resilient parts of the global supply chain both now and in the future.
