Using health and safety data to help prevent future incidents in the construction sector

Safetytech Accelerator is delighted to announce a new collaboration in the construction sector with Discovering Safety, a programme funded by the Lloyd’s Register Foundation and delivered by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and their key partners.

The purpose of the collaboration is to draw on the expertise of both parties to explore the use of health & safety data to help prevent future incidents in the construction sector, thereby making the industry safer.

Discovering Safety aims to use data and analytical techniques to provide new insights and lead on innovative data-driven approaches to improving health and safety performance. One of the key aims of the programme is the use of innovative new approaches, working with collaborators, to address health and safety challenges.

Through its regulatory activities the HSE accumulates large volumes of industrial health and safety information from inspections, mandatory reporting, accident investigations and prosecutions. HSE records include information on industrial operating experience, how well risks are controlled across workplaces and the causes of serious accidents.

Similarly, individual organisations hold a wealth of additional valuable information pertaining to the management and control of their health and safety risks across their workplaces, along with learnings from accidents and near-miss incidents.

Safetytech Accelerator will be setting two global innovation challenges in this latest safety and risk collaboration. The individual challenges will look at using innovative technology to achieve real world outcomes when merging health and safety data with actual work situations.
